Isaac Brynjegard-Bialik is a Jewish artist living in Southern California. Trained in graphic design, he started working in fine art while living in Jerusalem. His work includes papercutting, calligraphy, painting, graphic design, and stained glass. He has created custom ketubot and other commissioned art pieces for couples and clients around the world. His current show, “Paper Midrash,” is composed of what he refers to as visual biblical commentary. The pieces are all based on bible stories or rabbinic interpretation and midrash; Isaac’s use of color and line adds further dimension and depth to these texts. Many of the works make use of cut-up comic books as background textures, contrasting comic mythology with the mythos of Judaism. “Paper Midrash” will be on view at the Merage Jewish Community Center of Orange County from January 24 through February 27, 2010. Isaac is married to his high school sweetheart and has three daughters. |
