Isaac Brynjegard-Bialik is a Jewish artist living in Southern California. Trained in graphic design, he started working in fine art while living in Jerusalem. His work includes papercutting, calligraphy, painting, graphic design, and stained glass. He has created custom ketubot and other commissioned art pieces for couples and clients around the world. Isaac's current work comprises what he refers to as visual biblical commentary -- using the traditional art of papercutting in new, exciting ways to explore the Jewish tradition. The pieces are all based on bible stories or rabbinic interpretation and midrash; his use of color and line adds further dimension and depth to these texts. Many of the works make use of cut-up comic books as background textures, contrasting comic mythology with the mythos of Judaism. isaac's work will be featured in a one-man show at Brave New World Comics in Santa Clarita, California this fall; the opening reception will be Saturday, September 11, 2010. Four of his works will be included in a group show at the Finegood Art Gallery in West Hills, California, opening in September 2010. “Paper Midrash” was shown at the Merage Jewish Community Center of Orange County from January 24 through February 27, 2010. Isaac is married to his high school sweetheart and has three daughters. |
